Minor Attractions: Sonic Womb by Laima Leyton
Can you name one electronic music producer or composer who is a woman from the 50s, 60s or even 70s? In the music industry, women have historically been denied access to music studios. From this repression, a greater freedom of experimentation was born where women made radical extreme experimental sounds from their home, breaking the barriers of compositional normality and expectations.

Sonic Womb by Laima Leyton is a live vinyl set unveiling a collective sound archive created by artists who are women: from the first known electronic work recorded in 1935 to now, featuring pioneer composers as Suzanne Ciani, Pauline Oliveros and Daphne Oram and sound pieces from artists Nan Goldin, Marina Abramovich, Taryn Simons.

Laima Leyton is a Brazilian artist living in London who fuses music, performance, education and the domestic. Leyton is a resident artist at Gasworks and part of the artist duo InnerSwell with Lexy Morvaridi. She has performed at the Southbank Centre, Richard Saltoun, the ICA and internationally.
